When interior-design lover and fashion blogger Erica Davies wanted to recreate her kitchen as a comforting, family space she decided to ditch cold silvers for warm metallic accents and a brushed gold Zip HydroTap complemented the look perfectly.

When it came to renovating her “dark and drab” kitchen in 2017, Erica Davies, one of the UK’s top Instagram interiors influencers, had 57.9k followers eagerly awaiting the transformation. Having spent years as a fashion director, journalist and stylist – working for publications including LOOK, The Sun and The Daily Mirror – Erica is undisputedly a lady with true fashion prowess.

While known for her impeccable taste in high-waist maxis, broderie tops and statement prints, nowadays she’s becoming increasingly well known for her equally flawless taste in interiors. “My love of interior design stemmed from my background in fashion. I think the two go hand-in-hand,” she says. “I love putting together outfits in the same way I do interiors.”

The brief

The brief

Tapping into her experience creating fashion pages, writing stories and styling photoshoots, in 2012 she decided to start a blog (the-edited.com) and Instagram feed (@erica_davies). But it wasn’t until 2015, when Erica and her family moved from London to a ‘blank canvas’ new-build in Essex, that she began to post about decor. Soon after, her blog and Instagram feed rocketed in popularity.

Having already knocked through into the conservatory to create a new lounge area of the kitchen, Erica began planning her design with Herringbone Kitchens; a small, family-run business based in Canterbury. “We kept the same layout as before, with a few changes to the positions of some cupboards. I knew I wanted a dark colour and a lighter worktop and for the whole room to feel cosy and connect us all as a family,” she says.

A big part of achieving that cosy look, explains Erica, was to banish cold silvers in favour of warm metallics. "We’re in the process of replacing all the stainless steel in the house with gold and wanted to do the same in the kitchen. I’ve always wanted an instant filtered boiling water tap, so when I came across the HydroTap, which not only dispenses filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water, but comes in a brushed gold finish, I was sold. I also loved the styling of the tap. It fitted perfectly with the aged brass Perrin & Rowe mixer tap I’d chosen for the sink,” she explains.

Erica and her family have been busy putting the appliance to good use – from speeding up cooking to making cups of tea and healthy sparkling drinks for the children.

“The best thing about a Zip HydroTap is how easy it is to use. My husband, children and I all now drink more water than before and the convenience factor of having boiling water permanently on tap is great for family life. The kids love it and show every guest! My tea also tastes a lot cleaner, with no more limescale." she explains.

"I would definitely recommend investing in a HydroTap, they add so much to your kitchen."
