HydroTap Cube in Michael Laird Architects Glasgow office

 27 Nov 2017

Following years of specifying Zip’s range of HydroTaps, award-winning architectural practice Michael Laird Architects (MLA) couldn’t resist installing one in the firm’s own office in Glasgow.

Fitted in November 2016 as part of an office refurbishment, MLA opted for a HydroTap Cube in brushed chrome with matching font, delivering filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water at the touch of a button.

Chosen from Zip’s Design Range – launched in 2015 with the introduction of the Arc, Cube and Elite designs – the modern Cube shape and matt finish perfectly complement the contemporary design of the architects’ studio and other fittings within the existing kitchen.

With 10 permanent staff, and regular visitors from MLA’s office in Edinburgh, the tap keeps employees and clients hydrated with exceptionally pure-tasting water thanks to its market-leading filtration system, which offers x25 better filtration than a water filter jug.

Stuart Watters, one of MLA’s directors who’s had a significant role in a number of major commercial, educational and residential projects, says: “Appealing to those who crave substance as well as style, we specify Zip HydroTaps for all of our projects where there is a requirement for filtered boiling/chilled water.”

MLA has specified Zip for prestigious projects including a fit out in The Gherkin, offices for Standard Life, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Aegon, and, more recently, the City of Glasgow College City Campus and RIBA Stirling Prize-nominated Riverside Campus.

With a key understanding of how people use their environment and how buildings and spaces can influence wellbeing, Stuart says the HydroTap works to boost staff motivation, saves time and is also energy efficient.

“In our Edinburgh office we already have a Zip HydroTap Classic, offering filtered boiling and chilled water, which has been there a few years now. As such, we have seen first-hand how robust and reliable the product is and we knew installing one in our Glasgow office would be a good investment,” he explains. “The only difference is that this  time around, we chose to go with one of the new tap styles available and also decided to add sparkling water as an option too.

“Since the new tap was fitted, we’ve seen a real increase in productivity. We can provide a variety of drinks very quickly for both clients and staff and not having to wait for the kettle to boil has been invaluable,” says Stuart, adding: “The sparkling water is also a really nice touch.”
