Zip brings a golden touch to Pip McCormac’s on-trend kitchen

“I remember walking through the door and just feeling so deflated and uninspired. I loved my flat but couldn’t imagine how it would now be the space to get my creative juices flowing!”
Not only has Pip been a top journalist for the past 15 years, writing for the likes of Red, Elle Decoration and The Sunday Times Style Magazine, he is also the author of a cookbook. The Herb and Flower cookbook was born from Pip’s love of windowbox fayre, growing a whole host of plants and flowers – all for eating. With this in mind, the flat’s kitchen no longer suited Pip’s needs. Small and separate from the living room, it wasn’t conducive to social evenings cooking for friends.
“It became apparent that I needed some expert help. I called upon the amazing interior designers, Jordan and Russell, from 2LG Studio who are geniuses when it comes to transforming spaces. They really have worked wonders – my flat is unrecognisable, but in a good way!
Jordan and Russell completely changed the layout of the flat, removing walls and creating a much lighter, brighter space. Importantly for Pip, the kitchen is now part of the main living area, meaning Pip can enjoy cooking while catching up with guests.
“I know everyone says this, but I wanted a kitchen that was ‘Instagrammable’, with plenty of worktop space and a big island. It had to be functional but it also had to have the wow factor in terms of style. I love the colour combination Jordan and Russell suggested of gold, marble and sage green. It’s homely but with a striking edge to it.”
It was only after staying with friends who had a Zip HydroTap, that Pip realised his new kitchen wouldn’t be complete without one.
“I’d never really considered that a boiling tap could have such an impact on daily life, but after using one for a weekend I was hooked! My filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling HydroTap is used all the time. The chilled water encourages me to drink more water and the instant boiling water makes cooking processes so quick, especially when combined with my induction hob. Of course, I had to have a gold one to go with my colour scheme, and I also went with a matching mixer tap to complete the look.
“For me, food and interiors go hand in hand. There’s no point in having a kitchen appliance that works well but looks hideous. These days, people don’t want their worktops cluttered with gadgets that are only used once in a blue moon. The HydroTap is without doubt a kitchen must-have, and being able to choose from a range of colours means there is one to suit your taste.”
