Shooting Star Children’s Hospice

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, a charity which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families, needed an urgent refurbishment within one of their hospices. The communal area at Shooting Star House, their hospice in Hampton, was tired and dated, and didn’t reflect the vibrant nature of the charity.

Calling on the services of corporate fundraiser and partner, Area, the charity allocated a two week window in which to transform this important room. The brief was to make it an inviting space where families could spend time together relaxing, eating and socialising.

Far more than just a new coat of paint and some pictures on the wall, the entire area was refurbished by the team of volunteers, from new flooring, decorated walls and new furniture, to stunning hot air balloons and fluffy clouds suspended from the ceiling.

One section of the space was designated for guests and staff to make drinks. Area chose Zip, having specified HydroTaps for previous projects and loved the functionality along with the choice of finishes. A Zip HydroTap Arc in bright chrome was selected, providing users with filtered boiling and chilled water instantly.

Justin Lewis, head of client support at Area, explains further: “When completing a project such as this, so many considerations have to be made. Not only were we working on an extremely tight timescale, but we knew that the space had to be both visually exciting, with sensory elements for the children, but also practical and safe, conforming to strict hospice guidelines.”

“We approached suppliers we knew would deliver what was needed, and Zip was one of those suppliers," continues Justin. "We regularly specify HydroTaps for commercial projects and we are familiar with the product range, so knew that they would have the perfect solution for the drinks station. The HydroTap means families can make drinks instantly without waiting for a kettle to boil, and thanks to the tap’s safety features such as the boiling isolation mode and cool-touch tap, users can enjoy complete peace of mind.”

Alexandra Rennie, Corporate Relationship Manager from Shooting Star Children’s Hospices added “We are so grateful to everyone involved in the refurbishment, it’s been a huge success and the children are mesmerised by their new space.

The incredible generosity of companies like Area and Zip Water to make this refurbishment possible means that we can continue to make every moment count forthe children and families we support.”
